The aim of the invention is to provide a cutlery basket for receiving cutlery in a substantially horizontal manner, which, if required, can accommodate larger items of cutlery for washing and which makes optimal use of the space in the washing container if not required. This is achieved by an inventive cutlery basket for receiving cutlery in a substantially horizontal manner for use in a dishwasher (1), comprising a base area for supporting the items of cutlery.
