The invention relates to a broke system for a paper machine or equivalent. In accordance with the invention, the broke system is arranged between a discharge location of broke coming from the paper machine and a pulper (12) and the broke system includes broke receiving means (1, 22, 23, 24) situated underneath the paper machine for receiving broke at a dry solids content and at a bulk density which substantially correspond to the dry solids content and the bulk density of a web (R) at the discharge location of the broke, a broke conveying line (13) for transporting the broke from the broke receiving means to a broke storage (11), and broke handling and/or pressing means (8, 10) to increase the bulk density of the broke before the broke storage to reach a storage volume at which the dry solids content of the broke is at least the dry solids content of the broke at the discharge location of the broke.
