PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an array waveguide diffraction grating which has a wide light passage band and is suitable as an optical multiplexer. SOLUTION: The end part on the first slab waveguide side of at least one optical input waveguide 12 of the array waveguide diffraction grating is connected to a first slab waveguide 13 through a first single mode end part width waveguide 5a which is independent to correspond to the optical input waveguide in 1:1. The end parts on the second slab waveguide side of a plurality of optical output waveguides 16 are connected to a second slab waveguide 15 through second single mode end part width waveguides 5b which are independent to correspond to the optical output waveguides in 1:1. A widened waveguide which is widened toward the first slab waveguide 13 is provided in at least a part of the first single mode end part width waveguide 5a, and a widened waveguide which is widened toward the second slab waveguide 15 is provided in at least a part of the second single mode end part width waveguide, and different widths are given to the widened ends of the first and second single mode end part width waveguides 5a and 5b at least.
