<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber for efficiently compensate dispersion characteristics of NZ-DSF for the wavelength of 1,500 nm. <P>SOLUTION: The outer periphery of a center core area 1 is coated with an annular core area 8 consisting of three or more layers, and the outside periphery of the annular core area 8 is coated with a clad 5, and the center core area 1 is formed so as to have a maximum refractive index higher than the refractive index of the clad 5. Minimum refractive indexes of the first innermost annular core area 2 and the third inner annular core area 4 out of the annular core area 8 are made lower than the refractive index of the clad 5, and the maximum refractive index of the second inner annular core area 3 is made higher than the refractive index of the clad 5. The dispersion value for the wavelength of 1,550 nm is set to≥-90 ps/nm/km and≤-40 ps/nm/km, and the dispersion gradient is set to≥-2 ps/nm<SP>2</SP>/km and≤-0.25 ps/nm<SP>2</SP>/km, and the bending loss increase of the diameter of 20 mm is set to≤10 dB/m, and the value obtained by dividing the dispersion value by the dispersion slope for the wavelength of 1,550 nm is set to≥25 nm and≤200 nm. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
