PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an alignment defect from being generated and a contrast ratio from being lowered.
SOLUTION: In a process of manufacturing a liquid crystal panel a chiral smectic liquid crystal 2 is injected into a gap between substrates 1a, 1b, subsequently temperature is elevated until the chiral smectic liquid crystal 2 exhibits an isotropic liquid (ISO.) phase or a cholesteric (Ch) phase and subsequently the temperature is lowered until phase transition to a chiral smectic C (SmC*) phase takes place. In this step, at a high temperature part of the smectic phase, a DC component to tilt the liquid crystal from a cone edge of a monostable side to a reverse direction is applied thereto. Thereby, the liquid crystal panel capable of being gray scale controlled and using the liquid crystal exhibiting the chiral smectic phase is provided, which has no alignment defect, has a high contrast ratio and has uniform switching characteristics without unevenness.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
|
