PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image exposure device capable of suppressing the deterioration of picture quality due to stray light by suitably setting up a photosensitive level and a non-photosensitive level in accordance with the sort of a photosensitive material. SOLUTION: A recording level setting part 118 finds out a recording level corresponding to a light quantity level stored in a recording level light quantity memory 126 from laser characteristics stored in a laser characteristic memory 128 and sets up the recording level. A non-recording level setting part 120 reads out a quenching ratio (the ratio of a coloring emitted light quantity level to a non-coloring emitted light quantity level) corresponding to the sort of the photosensitive material stored in a photosensitive material information memory 132 from a quenching ratio memory 130 and calculates a non-recording level VL from the read data and the recording level VH. An output voltage setting part 116 sets up output voltage VH' or VL' so that detected voltage becomes the recording level VH or the non-recording level VL. A switch 124 outputs the output voltage VH' or VL' to a drive circuit 134 for driving a laser light source 211B in accordance with an image modulation signal. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
