PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hanging method capable of preventing a body at the tip of a shaft from swinging and capable of obtaining an excellent glass preform for an optical fiber, and to provide a device there for. SOLUTION: In the hanging method, a mechanism 7 which moves up/down along columns 4 and a shaft 9 extending downwards from the mechanism 7 are provided and constituted such that natural frequencies of the columns 4 and the shaft 9 are not coincide with each other, and the body 3 is suspended at the tip of the shaft 9 and pulled up or pulled down.
