An emergency opening device for a domed skylight or a skylight window (e.g. for use in the event of fire or smoke development), is illustrated with reference to Figures 1, 2a and 2b and comprises a main cylinder 6 pivotally mounted on a seating frame 2 for the skylight 1, a pneumatically actuated piston 7 slidably disposed in the cylinder and pivotally connected (via pin 8 and plate 9) to the opening side of the skylight, the piston being lockable in an extended position by a spring-loaded locking pin 22 slidably disposed in a locking cylinder 20, the pin engaging behind a projection 27 on the piston in the limiting position and being pneumatically disengageable from the locking position against the spring force 23, and at least two compressed gas cartridges 11, 12 being provided, one for operating the piston 7 to effect opening of the skylight and the other for resetting the locking pin 22 to allow closing of the skylight, each gas cartridge being accommodated independently of the other in a chamber 13, 14 and each chamber communicating with a respective cylinder 6, 20 via a delivery line 18, 19, a piercing pin 17 being provided to pierce each gas cartridge. If desired, a compressed air mains may also be utilized to actuate the opening device, the mains being connected via an adjusting valve 21, further shown by Figs. 2a and 2b. Other features described are a Z-shaped latch 30, and venting valves 25, 44 for quick operation. Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates an alternative construction having a high-speed venting valve 46 in place of the distributor 21 of Figure 1.</p> |
