PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing NOx in a combustion waste gas by which the NOx in the combustion waste gas of a fuel oil is extremely reduced without undesirable effects such as deterioration with time of the fuel oil, and corrosion, deposit, or the like, of a fuel oil tank, or the like, are reduced by a simple method by adding an additive to the fuel oil, and also to obtain a fuel composition. SOLUTION: The method for reducing the nitrogen oxides in the combustion waste gas involves burning a fuel composition comprising the fuel oil and an oil-soluble molybdenum compound. The fuel composition comprises the fuel oil and the oil-soluble molybdenum compound regulated so that the content of the molybdenum compound is 0.2-200 wt.ppm expressed in terms of molybdenum atom.
