PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems that, although a surface-stabilized ferroelectric liquid crystal is known to enable a method for improving the speed of response of a liquid crystal, the method has problems in actualization of retention of uniform cell gap, mechanical strengths, uniform orientation of ferroelectric liquid crystal, and since a liquid crystalline monomer used as a raw material for a polymer compound is limited in known compound materials of ferroelectric liquid crystals with polymer compounds, the compound material has a detect of remarkably reducing the speed of response of a ferroelectric liquid crystal. SOLUTION: This ferroelectric liquid crystal compound material comprises a liquid crystal compound exhibiting a chiral smectic C phase or a composition containing the compound existing in the structure of a polymer obtained from the liquid crystalline monomer. The liquid crystalline monomer is preferably selected from a fumaric acid ester derivative, a difluoromethyleneoxy group- containing (meth)acrylic acid derivative and a fluorene ring-containing (meth) acrylic acid derivative.
