<p>A process for oligomerizing an acyclic monoolefin monomer in which the oligomerization is controlled to produce predetermined relative amounts of at least two preselected oligomers in a higher boiling fraction of the oligomerization products and the lower boiling products are recycled to the oligomerization reaction.</p>
