The method for producing fibre strand for tobacco production involves using a three component fibrous material (4) which is bound to produce the fibre strand (24). Part of the three components is solidified to the fibre strand. Electromagnetic waves can be passed through the fibre strand to aid binding. The fibres can be activated by two different electromagnetic wavelengths. The electromagnetic waves can be microwaves on infra-red. Claims include a binding machine using the method.
