PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for a display device which is easily made light and thin, is strong to impact, has high strength, is excellent in gas barrier property and shows high performance in a wide band. SOLUTION: This substrate for a display device includes a laminate comprising at least two plastic layers and an adhesive layer disposed between the two plastic layers. The adhesive layer contains at least either particles wherein a number mean particle diameter (D<SB>50</SB>) is≤200 nm or an inorganic layer-shaped compound whose average thickness is≤10 nm and whose average aspect ratio is≥20, and resin. It is desirable that the average aspect ratio in the inorganic layer-shaped compound is≤5000, and that the two plastic layers are a layer in which an inherent birefringent value includes positive polymer and a layer in which an inherent birefringent value includes negative polymer.
