PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a viscosity measuring reagent and a viscosity measuring method using the viscosity measuring reagent capable of measuring viscosity without performing correction on sample polarity. SOLUTION: This viscosity measuring reagent containing benzene-carboxylate shown by following formula (I) and this viscosity measuring method using the reagent are provided (In the formula, R is a group selected from among a 3C or more branched alkyl group, a substituted or un-substituted alicyclic hydrocarbon group and a substituted or un-substituted sugar residue; and n is 5 or 6, and respective CO<SB>2</SB>R may be mutually the same or different).
