PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple method for preparing a low-molecular-weight polyaniline freed from the problem encountered in a reaction on a substrate and the problem encountered in an electrode oxidation method and having solubility in general-purpose organic solvents as well as electrical properties inherent in polyaniline and to provide a product prepared thereby. SOLUTION: The method for preparing a polyaniline comprises adding aniline or an aniline salt to an aqueous solution of an oxidizing agent having a standard electrode potential (defined as the electromotive force in a reduction half-cell reaction in which the reference is a standard hydrogen electrode) of at least +0.6 eV.
