PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a method for producing 2-adamantanone in a high yield and purity without producing nonvolatile tar. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 2-adamantanone comprises oxidizing at least one kind selected from adamantane, 1-adamantanol and 2- adamantanol in concentrated sulfuric acid. In the method, an alcohol such as t-butyl alcohol is added to a reaction medium in the course of the reaction, preferably in the end region of formation of the 2-adamantanone. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
