<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a carbonate, by which the carbonate can profitably be produced from non-poisonous and non-corrosive carbon dioxide as a carbonylation source. <P>SOLUTION: This method for producing the carbonate, comprising reacting an alcohol with a metal oxide and carbon dioxide, is characterized by comprising (I) a process for reacting the metal oxide with the alcohol and distilling away the produced water at a lower temperature than the boiling point of the alcohol and (II) a process for reacting the metal alkoxide obtained in the process (I) with the carbon dioxide in the presence of the alcohol to produce the carbonate. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
