PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning optical device improved in positional precision of an optical box and high in rigidity and an image forming device. SOLUTION: The scanning optical device having the optical box 8 housing optical components is provided with a supporting member 9 more rigid than the optical box 8 for attaching the optical box 8 to main body side plate frames 301 and 302 and an adjusting mechanism 11 formed on the supporting member 9 on the outer side of an image valid part for adjusting a relative position with the main body side plate frames 301 and 302, and the supporting member 9 is fixed to the main body side plate frames 301 and 302 on the outer side of the image valid part.
