PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a shielding operation and a lubricating operation high in reliability in a region of a valve guide by improving a reciprocating piston engine by a simple and low cost means. SOLUTION: This reciprocating piston engine is capable of realizing the certain shielding operation and lubricating operation in the region of the valve guide 10 by making it possible to guide oil in a form of leakage under a control from a high pressure region of a hydraulic operation device, making it possible to control quantity of the oil in a cycle of valve operation by a quantity control device 28, making it possible to supply the working oil suppliable to the guide device 10 to the valve guide 10 and making it possible to lubricate it in the form of leakage under the control.
