PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an alkaline detergent composition that is suitably useful for washing the oil stains on cookers, ventilating fans, grills or ovens in cooking places or working places such as of kitchens, hotels, restaurants, dining rooms of schools and companies, food processing factories and eating houses, and has excellent detergent performance and storage stability. SOLUTION: This alkaline detergent composition is characterized by comprising (a) 0.2-15 mass % of an alkali agent consisting of 0.1-15 mass % of an alkali metal hydroxide such as sodium hydroxide and/or potassium hydroxide and 0.1-10 mass % of a silicate salt, (b) 1-5 mass % of an anionic surfactant, (c) 0.1-10 mass % of a sequestering agent, (d) 3-20 mass % of a water-soluble glycol solvent, (e) water and (f) at least one kind selected from xylenesulfonate salts, cumenesulfonate salts and p-toluenesulfonate salts.
