摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a half transmission/reflection type liquid crystal display in which the occurrence of disclination near the boundary of a reflection display area and a transmission display area can be suppressed and bright and high- contrast display can be obtained. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display 10 is composed by clamping a liquid crystal layer 3 between a pair of substrates 1 and 2, an area utilized for display in the liquid crystal layer 3 is provided with two kinds of the areas having different liquid crystal layer thickness, and the respective areas of the different liquid crystal layer thickness are turned to the reflection display area R and the transmission display area T. In the reflection display area R of the display areas R and T, a reflection layer 16 for reflecting incident light and a layer thickness control layer (insulation layer) 22b for a liquid crystal layer for reducing the layer thickness of the liquid crystal layer are formed. The layer thickness control layer (insulation layer) 22b for the liquid crystal layer includes an inclined area having a slope so as to successively change the layer thickness of itself near the boundary of the respective display areas R and T. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
