PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an integrated LCC-using strain gage sensor corresponding to a severe environmental condition, for example, in an engine cylinder, in a combustion chamber, or in the periphery thereof. SOLUTION: In this integrated strain gage sensor using the LCC (optical channel communication technology), two or more LCC traces or strands 106 are extended across a microcavity 102 in a cylinder head gasket. As one characteristic of this invention, a system having a signal source 108 and the microcavity for passing an input signal from the signal source is provided, and the microcavity alters the input signal as a result of response of the microcavity to a strain. In the LCC, the microcavity and the signal source is connected mutually, and the input signal is propagated through the LCC. As another characteristic of this invention, when the strain is generated, the microcavity generates an output signal having the strength or the frequency different from that of the input signal.
