<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain stable display characteristics over a long period by moderating deterioration of display characteristics (contrast and so on) of a liquid crystal display element caused by light irradiation. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display element is provided with two sheets of substrates 2, 3, a liquid crystal composition 10 sealed between the two sheets of the substrates and containing a liquid crystal material showing a characteristics of changing from a trans form to a cis form and an optical retardation plate 11 which is disposed on an outside surface of the observer's side substrate 2 and the retardation value of which is lowered by light irradiation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
