PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of advantageously producing a steel rod which has excellent wire drawability because of no occurrence of pro-eutectoid cementite on patenting even if the content of C is≥0.8 mass% of an eutectoid composition, and also because of the fining of a lamellar structure of a pearlitic phase after patenting. SOLUTION: A steel stock containing, by mass, 0.8 to 1.5% C, 0.05 to 2.00% Si, 0.2 to 1.5% Mn, 0.1 to <0.5% Cr, and 0.6 to 3.0% Al is subjected to hot working to produce a steel rod. In this case, the total working ratio at 830 to 900°C in the hot working is controlled to≥20%, and the finishing temperature in the hot working is controlled to≥830°C. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
