PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare an emulsion for a vibration-damping material capable of forming a vibration-damping material composition affording an aqueous vibration-damping material improving stability or dispersibility and exhibiting excellent heated-air drying and vibration-damping properties, and to obtain a polyvalent metal oxide. SOLUTION: The emulsion for the vibration-damping material comprises an emulsion obtained by polymerizing a monomer component consisting essentially of an unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer and a crosslinking agent. Furthermore, the crosslinking agent is preferably at least one kind selected from the group consisting of a metal oxide, an isocyanate or a blocked isocyanate compound, a melamine compound, an epoxy compound, an oxazoline compound and a vinyl ether compound.
