<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide stainless steel for a separator of a polymer electrolyte fuel cell having low contact electrical resistance and the polymer electrolyte fuel cell provided with a separator composed of the stainless steel. <P>SOLUTION: In the stainless steel 10 for the separator of the polymer electrolyte fuel cell, one or more kinds of conductive M<SB>23</SB>C<SB>6</SB>type, M<SB>4</SB>C type, M<SB>2</SB>C type and MC type carbide based metallic inclusions 15 and a M<SB>2</SB>B type boride based metallic inclusion 13 are dispersed and exposed on the surface and the surface roughness expressed by center line average surface toughness Ra is 0.06 μm to 5 μm. The polymer electrolyte fuel cell is provided with the separator. The metal elements (M) in the M<SB>23</SB>C<SB>6</SB>type, M<SB>4</SB>C type, M<SB>2</SB>C type and MC type carbide based metallic inclusions and the M<SB>2</SB>B type boride based metallic inclusion preferably contain one or more kinds of chromium, molybdenum and tungsten. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
