PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply uniform alignment treatment to the whole area of a panel. SOLUTION: In the case of fabricating a liquid crystal panel using a chiral smectic liquid crystal, a DC voltage is sometimes applied to the liquid crystal which is just at the point in time of phase transition from a Ch (cholesteric) phase to a SmC* (chiral smectic C) phase for the purpose of imparting deviation to an internal potential inside a cell (refer to sign B<SB>2</SB>of the figure). Before application of the DC voltage (refer to sign B<SB>1</SB>of the figure), a DC voltage with a reverse polarity is applied. Alignment controlling layers are charged by this voltage application, and the charge componentΔV is applied to the liquid crystal during the period B<SB>2</SB>and consequently alignment treatment of the liquid crystal is thoroughly carried out.
