PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing torque changeover unit for a printer, capable of appropriately driving a printing part 8 stably even with a large roll size in a paper supply part 3 by reducing the influence on the printing part 8 of tension change to a band-like printing paper L to a minimum degree, and avoiding printing position displacement or blurring of the printed matters in the printing part 8, loss of synchronism or the like of a feeding motor 19. SOLUTION: The unit is for changing the feeding torque for a printing paper L by a feeding motor 19 according to the tension applied on the printing paper L. A tension detecting part for detecting the tension on the printing paper L in a feeding path 4 is provided for controlling the acceleration or deceleration curve of the feeding motor 19, the feeding power, the rotation speed, or the like according to the detection signal of the tension detecting part, and changing the feeding torque for the printing paper L in the printing part 8 by the feeding motor 19.
