PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a door closer low in cost with novel and simple structure simplifying complicated structure by dispensing with a rack, a pinion, a link, and the like heretofore in use. SOLUTION: In this door closer, the oil damper body side is mounted to one of a suitable place around an entrance part for mounting a door, and the door, and the piston rod side of an oil damper is mounted to the other. A piston of the oil damper has a passage which communicates one chamber with the other chamber of a piston storage chamber partitioned by the piston, and a valve element exists near the passage of the piston. The valve element moves with the movement of the piston and is adjustable to secure a large passage cross-sectional area in the opening direction movement of the door and to secure a small passage cross-sectional area in the closing direction movement of the door. The oil damper is provided with a hydraulic pressure release means for allowing a fluid in one chamber of the piston storage chamber to flow out with one rush to a chamber on the opposite side to the piston moving side at the closing terminus of the door. The oil damper is also provided with a spring for energizing the door in the closing direction by the movement of the piston. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
