<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensor where an element is completely protected from condensed water or the like by a relatively simple method without changing the structure of the element. <P>SOLUTION: The gas sensor 1 comprises a flat ceramic element 2 where a detection section D is formed at the front end side, and double protectors 6a and 6b for protecting the flat ceramic element 2 from moisture and oil content contained in the condensed water or gas to be detected. On one surface of the detection section D, a protection layer 24 is provided so that an electrode 25 for composing the gas detection surface is covered.
