PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent display tube which can control luminance spots and its driving method. SOLUTION: According to the relative positions of a filament and a fluorescent material layer, specifically, whether the fluorescent material layer is positioned right below the filament or between filaments, a driving pulse to a filament at a relatively short distance is made long and a driving pulse to a filament at a relatively long distance is made short. Consequently, the time of incidence of electrons on the filament positioned at the short distance which tends to relatively decrease in luminance is made long to increase the quantity of incidence, thereby its luminance is relatively increased. The time of incidence of electrons on the filament at the long distance which tends to relatively increase in luminance is made short to decrease the quantity of incidence, thereby the luminance is relatively lowered. The difference in luminance due to the difference in the distance from the filament and then luminance spots are suitably reduced, so uniform luminance can be obtained over the entire display surface.
