<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide beads which are used for culturing animal cells, have a high animal cell-adhering property and a high animal cell-proliferating property, and can efficiently culture the animal cells even in a serum-free culture medium. <P>SOLUTION: The beads for culturing the animal cells are characterized by disposing a polypeptide (P) having at least one minimum amino acid sequence exhibiting a cell adhesion signal in one molecule on the surfaces of fine particles (B), wherein the content of (P) is 0.1 to 100μg per cm<SP>2</SP>of the surfaces of (B). The volume-average particle diameter of (B) is preferably 50 to 250μm. The true specific gravity (density) of (B) is preferably 1.01 to 1.05 (g/cm<SP>3</SP>). (B) preferably comprises at least styrene units and multifunctional monomer units as constitutional units.
