PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutter for trimming capable of exerting a strong pressing force to a pinion gear in an automatic conveyance of an object to be cut by means of a rack and pinion gear. SOLUTION: This cutter for trimming is equipped with a seat and a slide unit 10. A rack gear is arranged in a longitudinal direction to form the seat at one end side of which has an upright wall body. A gear box is installed upright at one end side of a base part 11 which slides on the seat. The slide unit 10 has a pinion gear 29 capable of engaging or disengaging with the rack gear. A planar, nearly L-shaped switch lever 30 is provided and is attached to the base part of the slide unit such that the shortest arm part of the switch lever 30 is turnable. A torsion spring 40 is interposed between the switch lever and the leg part of the slide unit. When the cutter is made to turn, counteracting the force of the torsion spring, the longitudinal shaft part adjacent to the pinion gear is made to be pressed by strong force via a hook-shaped engagement section formed in the arm part of the middle of the switch lever.
