PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the presser bar lifting device of a sewing machine in which operation is smoothly carried out without worsening the appearance of stitches made in cloths when the cloths are continuously sewn. SOLUTION: The presser bar lifting device of the sewing machine is provide with a pressor foot pressed to a throat plate, a tip pulling roller which is arranged in the vicinity of the pressor foot and rotates intermittently, a housing which rotatably supports the tip pulling roller and is fitted with an elastic body for pressing the roller toward the throat plate, a presser bar lifting lever connected with a presser bar and the housing through a link member, and a presser bar lifting tool connected with the presser bar lifting lever. The presser bar and the housing are raised through the operation of the presser bar lifting tool and the holding metal plate and the tip pulling roller are separated from the throat plate. The connection between the housing and the presser bar lifting lever is formed through a hole and an almost J-shaped long hole in the link member using pins fitted in the presser bar lifting lever and the housing respectively.
