PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grinding material for a surface machining method capable of appropriately surface machining a long size article without causing an environmental problem and reducing a mechanical property of the long size article. SOLUTION: The grinding material is the one of surface machining of the long size article. In the surface machining method of the long size article using the grinding material, the long size article is clamped by at least two containers made of elastic body fed with the grinding material at a predetermined strength and is moved while the containers are relatively rotated against the long size article.
