<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for removing an underground pollutant, with enhanced removal efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: A mat 2 and a suction lid 3 airtightly cover the surface of the earth around the opening of an upper hole 10 and the opening of the upper hole 10. A water suction pipe 4 is inserted so as to pierce the suction lid 3 to reach the surface of ground water within the lower hole 11, which has a diameter smaller than that of the upper hole 10, provided to the bottom of the upper hole 10.
