PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a cast slab for continuous casting, for simply preventing powder defects, at a low cost. SOLUTION: When the continuously cast slab is produced, under conditions that variation of molten steel surface and drift flow in a mold are not higher than respective prescribed values, entrapment of the powder at the continuous casting time is restrained by controlling the flowing rate of inert gas blown into a nozzle for pouring the molten steel into the mold from a tundish according to only S concentration in the molten steel or the S concentration and the molten steel height in the tundish, so that the continuously cast slab for thin sheet having reduced powder base defect is produced.
