PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quinone oxide reductase useful for the reduction reaction of a quinone compound and the synthesis of an intermediate for a biologically active compound.

SOLUTION: The invention provides a gene encoding a quinone oxide reductase derived from Kluyveromyces marxianus and a protein expressed by the gene. Concretely, the invention provides a quinone oxide reductase derived from Kluyveromyces marxianus and having a specific amino acid sequence and a gene encoding the reductase.
