PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating marine organic waste, in which a large-scale apparatus is unnecessary, and area required to reclaim and an acid content required to extract a heavy metal can be reduced. SOLUTION: A process 1, in which the marine organic waste is supplied to a single reaction tank wherein acid forming bacteria coexist with methane forming bacteria and the marine organic waste is subjected to methane fermentation treatment in a condition in the range of an organic acid concentration of 5,000 mg/l or less, is provided. A process 2, in which the heavy metal is extracted from digestive sludge by carrying out acid treatment of the digestive sludge obtained from the process 1, is provided. The marine organic waste comprises an extracted residue wherein fat and oil are estracted from the mid- gut gland of a scallop or the viscera of a squid. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
