PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a back washing method for a filter device capable of especially separating iron oxide efficiently without adding a sedimentation agent and capable of achieving the simplification and reduction in cost of a process for back washing water treatment, and a back washing apparatus therefor. SOLUTION: In the back washing method for the filter device and the back washing apparatus therefor, water adjusted to an alkaline side with a pH of 8 or more is used as water for back washing the filter device.
