PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder having a high cleaning efficiency whereby nozzle faces of a recording head are less left without being cleaned. SOLUTION: In the ink jet recorder with the recording head and a cleaning mechanism for wiping nozzle faces of the recording head by a blade, a rearward meniscus velocity (RMV) to nozzle faces of ink discharged from nozzles of the recording head, and a velocity (VW) for the blade to wipe nozzle faces hold a relation of VW≤1.1×RMV.
