<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extended field of a view imaging system for rightly aligning an image frame in a short time. <P>SOLUTION: A three-dimensional (3D) ultrasonic imaging system captures a partially complete image set where approximately complete image sets are alternately arranged. The partially complete image set contains speckle to be processed by a mutual correlation algorithm for tracking the movement of an ultrasound scanhead. By tracking the movement of the ultrasound scanhead, the approximately complete image sets are properly aligned and can be coupled to prepare a 3D extended field of view image. The partially complete image set contains data remarkably less than the approximately complete image sets. Therefore, the partially complete image set can be captured faster than the approximately complete image sets, and the scanhead can perform a scan comparatively at high speed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
