PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detection nucleic acid, with which a nonradioactive label is used, is hardly obstructed more than biotin/(strept)avidin interaction and detection sensitivity higher than that of a detection system using DIG is attained. SOLUTION: This method for detecting nucleic acid comprises (A) a process for bringing labeled nucleic acid into contact with probe nucleic acid labeled with a six-membered ring-containing compound represented by formula (1) (R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each the same or different and independently a hydrogen atom or a 1-6C alkyl group; dotted line is an atomic group required for forming a six-membered ring) to carry out hybridization and (B) a process for detecting the probe nucleic acid hybridized to the labeled nucleic acid by using an antibody against the six-membered ring-containing compound.
