PURPOSE: A rotary oil damper is provided to minimize the inner leakage of oil, to generate large damping force, to manufacture simply and to improve durability. CONSTITUTION: The rotary oil damper comprises: a cylindrical damper body(10) provided with a damping chamber(11) closed at the filled state with a viscous fluid; a rotary shaft projected to one side of the damper body(10); a damping plate(50) installed to make linear reciprocation possibly toward the central axle by a linear movement guide unit in the damping chamber(11) of the damper body(10) and provided with an O-ring(22) adhered closely to the inside of the damping chamber(11), an orifice(54) passing through both sides, and a check valve forming the larger oil groove than the orifice(54) when opening; and a linear reciprocating device reciprocating the damping plate(50) linearly by the rotation of the rotary shaft.
