PURPOSE: A high density optical recording/playing method and an apparatus thereof are provided to compound advantages of a far field method and a near field method, thereby efficiently forming a protective layer of a disk while recording and playing a signal in and from the disk having the high recording density. CONSTITUTION: A recording layer(12) is leaned toward a contact surface with a focusing lens(20) to a center of the disk thickness. A contact surface recording type disk(10) is prepared, having a protective layer(13) on a surface facing the disk. A beam irradiated from a light receiving and transmitting unit is projected to the recording layer of the contact surface recording type disk so that information is recorded or played in or from the disk.
