PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for driving an LCD panel are provided to control a liquid crystal driving signal by analyzing the intensity of an output beam of the LCD panel each block. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for driving an LCD panel includes an optical detection portion(102), an optical output extraction portion(103), a control portion(104), and a driving signal generation portion(106,107). The optical detection portion converts an output beam of an LCD panel to an electrical signal according to a liquid crystal driving signal. The optical output extraction portion receives the electrical signal and extracts a level of the electrical signal according to each on/off switching block. The control portion receives an optical detection signal from the optical output extraction portion, compares the optical detection signal with a predetermined threshold value, and generates a driving control signal to control the switching timing of a driving signal, The driving signal generation portion generates a liquid crystal driving signal by varying a switching on/off hold voltage and a switching on/off peak voltage according to the driving control signal.
