PURPOSE: A method for cladding metal matrix with chromium carbide is provided to substantially improve wear resistance and corrosion resistance as forming plating thickness thinly by diffusion heat treating the chromium clad metal matrix after coating chromium on the metal matrix, thereby forming chromium carbide layer having very high hardness on the surface of the metal matrix. CONSTITUTION: In a method for forming a chromium coating layer(3) on the surface of metal matrix(2), the method comprises the processes of coating chromium on the surface of the metal material; and diffusion heat treating the chromium coated metal matrix, wherein diffusion heat treatment of the metal matrix is performed in the temperature range of 750 to 1,250 deg.C under the vacuum, reduction or decarburization atmosphere, wherein diffusion heat treatment of the metal matrix is performed at a temperature of quenching temperature of the metal matrix or less, and wherein the metal matrix is steel product containing 0.3 to 3.0 wt.% of carbon and the metal matrix is diffusion heat treated in the temperature range of 750 to 1,250 deg.C under the vacuum or reduction atmosphere. In a method for forming a chromium coating layer(3) on the surface of metal matrix(2), the method for cladding chromium carbide on the metal matrix comprises the processes of forming a nickel or cobalt layer to a thickness of 10 μm or less on the surface of the metal matrix; coating chromium on the nickel or cobalt layer; and diffusion heat treating the chromium coated metal matrix.
