PURPOSE: Provided is a solid material and grit matter separator being capable of rapidly separating water and sand in sewage and wastewater, and preventing secondary pollution by pollutants attached to the grit and sand, thereby producing sand with low water content. CONSTITUTION: The separator comprises a washing unit(1) having nozzles(3) at the bottom thereof, through which high pressure washing water or air is injected for separating pollutants in introduced sewage and wastewater into solid material and grit matter by vortex generated by the washing water or air, a baffle wall(5) installed between the washing unit(1) and a settling unit(6) for making the sewage and wastewater flow in one direction, the settling unit(6) for settling grit matter, and a transportation unit for transporting grit matter settled in the washing unit and the settling unit.
