PURPOSE: A vacuum cleaner is provided to empty a dust collecting chamber and a dust collecting casing selectively according to the amount of foreign matters with simple structure, and to minimize suction loss of air by supplying air from the dust collecting chamber to a motor housing through the shortest passage. CONSTITUTION: A vacuum cleaner(20) comprises a cylindrical dust collecting chamber(25) forming spiral vortex of air flowing from an inlet part, and having a separation hole(25a) formed in the lower part and a discharge hole(25b) formed in the lower center; a cover(25c) opening and closing the upper part of the dust collecting chamber; a filter(25f) installed in the lower part of the cover to filtrate fine dust by sucking air and discharge air downward; a motor housing(H1) having a driving fan(f) and a driving motor(M) contacted to the discharge hole to discharge air from the filter out of the dust collecting chamber and guide discharge of air through the discharge part formed at the side of the body; and a dust collecting casing(24) opened and closed by a cover(29) including a passage(24a) extended downward from the separation hole. The dust collecting chamber or the dust collecting casing is emptied conveniently according to the amount of foreign matters.
