PURPOSE: A port matching apparatus and method of an ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) cell switching system are provided to resolve a short inter-network matching issue and enhance a performance of a performance of a system by effectively using an I/O interface port for switching. CONSTITUTION: STM(Synchronous Transfer Mode)-1 class input interface units(7) match to a target system and process input data. A matching unit(8) matches data received from the plural input interface units(7) to fit them to an STM-1 class. A multiplexer(9) receives the STM-1 class signals from the matching unit(8) and multiplexes them to an STM-4 class. An ATM switching unit(10) switches the STM-4 class data in order to transmit them to each destination. A demultiplexer(11) demultiplexes the STM-4 class signal to plural STM-1 class signals and outputs them. An output interface unit(12) receives the STM-1 class data from the demultiplexer(11) and outputs them to each destination.
